What time of year is the best time to visit Cusco and Machu Picchu?
This is a great question, the highlands experience 2 seasons, the wet and the dry. The dry season runs from May to October, here you will experience dry days and really cold nights. This is the most popular season to visit. There will be crowds at all the popular sites including Machu Picchu and tickets, hotels and other services sell out quickly. The wet season is from November to April and you will experience rain most days. This season is less popular with tourists and you will find tickets easier to come by with discounts on hotels and other services.
What will happen to my luggage while I am doing the Inca Trail?
Yes, this is a concern of many travelers, if you are returning to the same hotel, most hotels will store your luggage in their storeroom. If you changing hotels or traveling on Wayna Trekkers will happily store your luggage in our office. Please advise at the briefing if you wish us to store your luggage
What is the best circuit to do at Machu Picchu?
Generally speaking, Circuits 2A & 2B are the most comprehensive, these also sell out quickly. If those tickets are unavailable a combination of Circuits 3 & 1 will give you a great experience at Machu Picchu. Ask our Wayna Trekkers staff for help navigating the entrance tickets to Machu Picchu.
When traveling to Machu Picchu by train is it better to stay overnight in Aguas Calientes?
A lot of people do the train journey to Machu Picchu in a day. Which is great you get to see the site and experience the magnificence. If you have the time, taking the train to Aguas Calientes and staying overnight is perfect. Explore the quaint little village in the afternoon, go to the hot springs. The next morning you can take one of the first buses up to the citadel and see the sunrise. This is a magical experience and a great way to see Machu Picchu.
What is the best way to pay for things on my Peruvian holiday, card or cash?
A combination of card and cash is a great way to go. In larger establishments you can use your card. But in smaller shops and markets you will need Peruvian Sol. Look for change houses to change your money. It is never a great idea to change money in the street, yes you may get a better rate but there is also a chance that you may receive counterfeit money, which cannot be replaced and will be destroyed if you try and use it in shops.
Do I need to have vaccinations before traveling to Peru?
This is a question best asked of your doctor. Before traveling to Peru visit your doctor or Travel Medical center to get the correct advice on your vaccination needs.
Do you provide transfers when I arrive into Lima?
Yes, Wayna Trekkers can provide transfers from the airport in Lima to your hotel. Please advise you travel advisor at least 2 weeks before your tour of your flight details etc. The cost of the transfer will not be included in your tour cost.
What is the best advice for acclimatising to the altitude?
The altitude effects people differently. Most are fine but some experience altitude at different degrees. The best advice is when arriving is to rest for a few days and drink plenty of water and cocoa tea, which most hotels will provide. It is not a good idea to eat heavy meals or drink alcohol for the first few days. Taking these precautions will help lessen the effects of the altitude.
Are trips physically demanding?
If you want to lie in a hammock and rest or maybe you want to be at high altitude of a mountain and see a marvelous panoramic view? Does Wayna Trekkers have family trips?
We offer a wide range of Family Adventures in all destinations we offer. The minimum age varies depending on destination and the program and activities.
Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is compulsory for all Wayna Trekkers travelers. This should be taken out at the time of booking. At a minimum, your travel insurance must cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses, emergency repatriation and personal liability. We also strongly recommend an insurance that covers cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects.
