New Regulations & Machu Picchu Circuits – 2026

Machu Picchu has released only 3 circuits this year for visitors. During the high season, stricter policies apply with only a few minutes tolerance for your designated circuit entry times.

Updates in Machu Picchu regarding the new Circuits.

The Peruvian government and the Ministry of Culture have changed significantly the number of circuits for travelers visiting Machu Picchu. Implemented to start on June 2024, circuits have been reduced to three. These new changes’ goal is to enhance all visitor’s experience, with the aim to equally distribute the flow of travelers who come to enter Machu Picchu.

Rationale behind the change

These regulations seek to ensure every visitor travels safely as well as safeguard the heritage of Machu Picchu.

Distribution of the Circuits

The Ministry of Culture in Cusco has structured the distribution of circuits as follows:

• General Machu Picchu Ticket: You are able to choose your visit either on circuit 1, 2 or 3.
• Ticket to Machu Picchu + Machu Picchu Mountain: This ticket allows visit to circuit 1 and its specified attraction.
• Ticket to Machu Picchu + Sun Gate (Inti Punku): you are limited to visit circuit 1 and it’s specified attraction.
• Ticket to Machu Picchu + Inka Bridge: This ticket also takes us to Circuit 1 and its specified attraction.
• Ticket to Machu Picchu + Wayna Picchu: This ticket allows us to visit circuit 3 and its specified attraction.
• Machu Picchu + Huchuy Picchu Ticket: This ticket also takes us to Circuit 3 and its specified attraction.
• Ticket to Machu Picchu + Great Cavern (Gran Caverna): Pretty much to the previous explanation, you are limited to visit circuit 1 and it’s specified attraction.
• Ticket to Machu Picchu through the Inca Trail (Short or Classic): Hikers are allowed to visit circuit 3 only.

Important notes!

• Multiple Circuits: If your goal is to visit all corners of Machu Picchu, you can opt to book additional tickets.
• Re-entry: Re-entry on the same ticket is not valid anymore.
• Ticket Sales: Machu Picchu tickets are sold online, and they sell out extremely quickly, book your tickets well in advance through licensed entities.

The implementation of these statements and new routes in the Citadel of Machu Picchu, is an effort in alliance between the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP) and the Ministry of Culture (MINCETUR)

Requirements for Hiking Trails 1-A, 1-D, 3-A, and 3-C:

Participation in these hikes is entirely voluntary and requires a good level of physical fitness. Hikers must also meet the following requirements:

• Entry time: Designated entry times are not changeable. Please, respect your schedules.
• Time limits are important: We ask all visitors to comply with the established statement and time limits for the hike and the departure time from the park. Failure to this may result in serious outcomes and punishments to both travelers and assigned guides.
