The tour continues to the other archeological sites in the area. Visit the fascinating Inca site of Q’enqo. This site was built into the natural stone of the area.

The final stop on our tour is Tambomachay, known as the Temple of Water, with impressive water fountains, thought to be used by the Inca for bathing. The Inca practiced religious traditions tied to water in order to rejuvenate the land. This tradition is known as the fountain of eternal youth.

Acclimatization to the altitude:

High altitude starts to have an effect on our bodies from between 1,500m – 2,000m (4921ft – 6561ft) when our bodies start to react differently to make up for the changes in oxygen levels. As you get higher, the air gets thinner, so with every breath there is less oxygen for your body. Your body gradually adapts to getting less oxygen – you breathe faster and deeper and the body produces more red blood cells. This takes time so this is why if you go from low to high altitude too quickly, you may feel symptoms of altitude sickness until your body acclimatizes.

The Cusco region is generally set at very high elevations. The city of Cusco stands at a staggering 3 399m/ 11 152ft. However, people react differently to altitude sickness and it can present itself in a variety of symptoms. Common symptoms include: headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, poor appetite, dizziness and disturbed sleep and in extreme cases, loss of oxygen.

There are number of ways to deal with altitude sickness. Firstly, you need to acclimate, that’s why we have no activities in Cusco when you arrive, so you are not required to do too much exercion. The body does adjust to the thin air; it just needs time. Secondly, get lots of sleep, relax and take it easy. Another option is to watch what you consume, try to avoid alcohol and drugs and also drink lots of water and coca tea. Keep your meals light, high in calories with lots of carbs. Lastly, we recommend visiting your doctor before traveling to Peru and ask for recommendations for medication that can help with altitude sickness.
These are the recommended remedies for altitude sickness is WATER, COCA TEA and OXYGEN, IF NEEDED.

Our first trip to Peru was made truly unforgettable thanks to Wayna Trekkers. We booked several private experiences with them, including a Sacred Valley tour, a 2-day luxury Short Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu, and a Lima city tour. From start to finish, everything was exceptionally well organized and exceeded our expectations.

Junior was our main point of contact, and he was outstanding. He responded quickly to all our questions, accommodated last-minute changes without any hassle , and gave us complete confidence throughout the planning process. It really felt like we were in good hands.

We completed the classic Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu the last week with Wayna Trekkers. Our guide Arnold was amazing. They took excellent care of our group, it was truly a personalized service with a small group as they promised to be. Our guide was knowledgeable, encouraging, funny, and made our trek a truly once in a lifetime experience. It is frankly hard to explain how unforgettable this experience was, how challenging it was and how rewarding, I am proud of my Wayna Team, they encouraged me to achieve it. If you are even thinking about booking this trek then look no further than Wayna Trekkers and ask and insist that Arnold be a part of your family! Wayna, oh my goodness! the food was amazing, congratulations to Felix for his cooking skills, our team was easy to communicate with and we never felt like we didn’t know what to expect every day. Wayna also takes very good care of their porters and cooks, pay them fairly as we heard from the porters themselves, even though our limited Spanish, and believe me these guys are a huge reason that the trek is so memorable! We are so grateful to our team and so grateful to add Arnold to our list of friends we will always remember with joy. Thanks for the unforgettable experience.

I Did the Huchuy Qosqo trek 3days (23-25 April) and would highly recommend that trip with Wayna Trekkers to everyone! From beginning to end the treat was extremely well organized - starting with the first communication until the drop off in Cusco! Our guide, Nelida, created a warm atmosphere for all of us, It was a lot of fun being with her. She is a great motivator. Also our cook Felix was amazing. It was incredible what he cooked. I always was curious how he was able to do all of this in a tent, he even managed to make cake. I am vegetarian and he catered all food restrictions and it was so delicious. Food, the people, the trip, the logistics, just perfect.

Wayna Trekkers provided me and my partner an excellent 2-day Machu Pichu tour for our holiday in Peru. Our guide Jose was excellent and open to answering every single question we threw at him. His passion for the location and his personal ancestral links shone through. The trek itself, even for 2 days, is stunning. We were catered for with food, and Junior was really communicative throughout the process of booking. If you want to see Machu Pichu, you can trust Wayna to look after you.

Wayna Trekkers were very diligent and flexible throughout my tour of Peru with the family. Excellent tour guides - Nico (Ask for him!!), Jimmy, Junior, Giselle and Ronald. Some great places to visit in Peru and these guides were fantastic in their knowledge of the place and leading us through adventurous hikes and taking us through history. Junior customized our visit to our liking and was incredibly organized in the whole setup. Not once did we feel that we were being hung out without information. Strongly recommend! A word of recommendation to Team Wayna Trekkers- Start specializing in more advanced photo tours for landscape photographers. That is a serious market now. Great job otherwise, team Wayna Trekkers!
