History

San Blas is one of the oldest and most beautiful neighbourhoods in Cusco and is usually referred to as Cusco’s artistic heart. San Blas was once part of the Inca elite’s residential zone, Toqokachi, meaning salty hole. After the Spanish Conquest in the 16^th Century, it was one of the first areas where the Spanish built their colonial houses and churches on the Inca temple foundations. Today you can see the blended heritage of the Inca and the Spanish colonialists.

How to get there

From the main square in Cusco walk up past the Cathedral. Walk along Calle Triunfo which changes to Calle Hatun Rumiyoc, where you will pass the 12-sided stone. After a long set of uphill stairs arrive at the barrio of San Blas. The walk is interesting and you will see Inca walls; art shops and loads of charm.
